Many years ago I realised that I had an interest in Counselling, but unfortunately the timing was not right to pursue that interest. Life continued and I worked in a variety of jobs, until a life changing event gave me the window of opportunity and I found myself as a single parent looking for new direction. That new direction was to start training as a Counsellor. The saying “what's for you will not pass you by” feels very relevant to me. If something is meant to be it will be, sometimes not always when we want it but eventually.
I became a counsellor out of curiosity initially. I had always had an interest in people and what makes them do the things we do. My new found training kick started something in me that gave me the opportunity to not only learn about myself but to meet new and interesting people. I found myself completely engaged with the learning, going on to work my way through my Diploma and then Psychotherapy level. This means that I am trained to work at length with deeply rooted mental health issues.
I now have many years experience working in a general practice agency in Plymouth, where I have dealt with many different mental health problems including; domestic abuse, trauma, eating disorders, childhood and relationship problems, among many others.
I am also now involved with working with students on their own counselling journey, this I do with Devon and Cornwall Counselling Hub. This is also a way of keeping up to date with theory and techniques used in the process of “becoming” who we would like to be.
I charge £45.00 per hour for individuals and £40 for students. The number of sessions will vary depending on what is right for the client, I like to respect the clients autonomy to know what is right for them. Take the first step . .
